Feb 2018: Another Legionnaires’ outbreak in Melbourne – Cooling Towers

February 26th, 2018

“The Legoinnaires’ outbreak on Friday indicates that something has gone wrong inside a cooling tower,” says Coolclean Managing Director, Darren Driscoll.

“If water treatment failed, so have mechanical components such as drift eliminators. In regard to cooling tower maintenance, we have to focus on secondary protection (mechanical components) as well as primary protection (water treatment). People should not get sick. Something is wrong. Get your drift eliminators checked,” he says.

Phone Coolclean on 03 8765 9500 if you would like assistance.

PEOPLE who visited the CBD’s southeast this year and experiencing flu-like symptoms are being urged to seek medical help, as an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease is being investigated. Three cases of the respiratory infection have been reported to the Department of Health, which has ordered the testing and cleaning of airconditioner cooling towers in the suspect affected pocket of the city. The men, aged between 52 and 74 years, all worked or visited the city in the days before they became unwell around February 6 to 14 2018. MORE: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/legionnaires-disease-outbreak-in-melbourne-cbds-southeast/news-story/12d3530b5124328d0fb3bceb2d4fa402
